Students who demonstrate a commitment to dance and an advanced level of technical abilities in their age level are selected by our faculty and given the opportunity to participate in a competitive program.

Competitive dance offers students the opportunity to train in advanced techniques and learn more challenging choreography in an exciting team-based environment.

By participating on stage in dance competitions, dancers further develop their self-esteem and confidence. Training and competing as a group builds interpersonal skills and rewarding bonds of friendship with other students. The spring competitions are the highlight of the year for many students.

Based on abilities, attitude and commitment, some students may further be offered the opportunity to perform in solos, duets and trios. These provide additional opportunities for students to grow their skills, confidence and self-discipline. Solos, duets and trios require additional individual classes.

All competitive students will participate in a Gala Showcase in the spring of each year, prior to their first competition. This dress rehearsal gives dancers the opportunity to practice their numbers on stage and provides their friends and families the chance to see all of the competitive numbers in a single enjoyable and professional show.  DDC will also hold an in studio rehearsal prior to the Showcase.  Date TBA.

Each year, our competitive team participates in four-five dance competitions in various cities and locations. Competitions are typically 3-4 days in length and are held Thursday evening to Sunday. Competitive dancers may participate in routines on more than one day and in some cases, an overnight hotel stay may be required.
